Advantages and Disadvantages of traveling to Chichen Itza on a public bus

In my opinion this is not an attractive option because the bus takes too long to get to Chichen Itza, if it leaves from Playa del Carmen, and takes approximately 4 hours to get there and 4 hours to return, in my opinion it is too long.

It is true that Chichen Itza is not close to the Riviera Maya, but the fact that it has to make two others stops, one in Tulum and the other in Valladolid makes it very unattractive.

If you are in Tulum the travel time is a little less, because it only stops in Valladolid

Advantages and Disadvantages of traveling to Chichen Itza on a public bus

Advantages

Less stress: No driving, you just have to relax and let the bus take you to Chichen Itza, no driving means that you don’t have to deal with all the stress of traffic, construction or driving in new areas

Disadvantages

Longer travel time: This is a very big disadvantage, if you leave from Playa del Carmen the bus will make a stop in Tulum (enter the city and wait for people to get on and off) and then it will make a stop in Valladolid (enter the city and wait for people to get on and off).

A trip that can be done in two hours takes up to 4 hours, it is too much

Each additional stop the bus makes increases the total duration of the trip. If there are many stops the travel time can be significantly longer compared to a bus that has fewer stops.

Conclusion

This is the worst option of all the options analyzed, in my opinion the time is very long to get to Chichen Itza. In addition, only returning bus leaves until 05:00 pm, so you will be stuck in Chichen Itza all day.

If you already have seen everything in Chichen and want to go to the cenotes or lunch you are stuck because you do not have transportation. You would have to take a taxi to go to a restaurant in the town that is next to Chichen Itza. That increases the total price of your trip, and adds to the stress of getting back to take the bus on time. If you miss the bus there is not another one until the next day.

Very limited options. However, this is a personal opinion and you have the final decision.
